New York Spine and Brain Surgery is the clinical practice of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Stony Brook University Medical Center. Overview


The practice works to carry out the missions of the department which are:

New York Spine and Brain Surgery at Stony Brook University Medical Center has been in existence for over 15 years. The Neurosurgeons on faculty include: Dr. Raphael Davis, Dr. Michael Egnor, Dr. Robert Galler, Dr. Frederick Gutman, Dr. Arthur Rosiello, and Dr. Henry Woo. Dr. Woo is the Director of the Cerebrovascular Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Dr. Michael Egnor is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery and is the only Board Certified Pediatric Neurosurgeon in Suffolk County. We also have a Board Certified Physiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Raanan, who is a specialist in treating back and joint pain.

New York Spine and Brain Surgery currently has two outpatient offices, one in East Setauket and the other in Riverhead. We make it easy for their patients to have care provided close to home by performing surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital, Peconic Bay Medical Center and St. Charles Hospital.

The Department of Neurological Surgery collectively has over 120 years of experience and has performed over 15,000 Neurosurgical procedures. Both brain surgery and spine surgery are performed. The neurosurgeons provide emergency coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An average of 7,500 patient visits are seen per year in their outpatient offices.

Referring physicians are provided with an initial report as well as follow up reports each time a patient is seen in their office. The Department of Neurological Surgery strives to provide the patient with the highest care possible and provide the referring physician with the information needed to do the same.
